“Nothing is too wonderful to happen.”

Our Nanny is Pregnant!

First Baby
2007 Landmark Hospital, Dr. Laurie Curry, MD

I went into the OBGYN's office on my due date, which was a Monday afternoon.  She did an internal exam and told me that I was three centimeters dilated which was not much of a change from the previous week.  She then informed me that if I did not have my baby by the following Monday, that they were going to induce me for the babies health purpose.  She gave me the option to make the induction appointment or to make another appointment to return to do one last check up on the following Monday.  Since I was sure that I did not want to be induced, I made an appointment to return to her office.

The beginning of the week went by with nothing occurring and by Thursday I started to get nervous about being induced.  I spoke with my wonderful HypnoBirthing Instructor Allison and she told me that if nothing happened by the weekend that she had a script that she does that might help start labor.  This sounded GREAT!  I spoke to a friend who was pregnant and had a due date 2 weeks before mine she told me how her doctor striped her membranes and then 4 hours later she started labor.  I spoke with my fiancée Thursday night at dinner about our options and decided that I would call the doctor and ask her to strip my membranes to hopefully move things along.  Then I would make an appointment with Allison to do the script.

We went home after dinner; I did some laundry, and then went to bed around 10:00.  I was just about to fall asleep when I started getting what I thought were gas pains.  I got out of bed sat on the couch, and watched TV.  Then I realized that they were not gas pains but that I was having surges!  How exciting!  I waited until 12:30 when they were 10 minutes apart and then decided to wake up my fiancée to tell him that I was having surges.  He sat up and started timing them realizing they were 4 minutes apart!

At 1:00, we called the OBGYN and they told me to go the hospital.  When we got to the hospital, they set me up with the fetal monitor and took my BP and temperature.  Then they did an internal exam and they informed me that I was only 3.5 centimeters but that my water was ready to break at any time.  They told me that they were going to keep me for 3 hours for observation.  After they did all the admitting work they took me off the fetal monitor so I could get up and move around.

At about 3:00, I asked to go sit in the waiting area with my family members.  I walked to the waiting room with my fiancée and sat down.  As soon as I sat down I had my strongest surge yet.  Once the surge ended, my water broke in the waiting room chair!!  I got up and walked back to my room and told the nurse that my water had broken.  At that time they hooked me back up to fetal monitors for 15 minutes to check on the baby and then they took me off.  I relaxed through my surges for the next three hours changing positions frequently on the bed and keeping my eyes closed.  This seemed to have kept me relaxed as well as the help from my fiancée telling me to breathe and think of the boat (river boat script).

At about 4:45, they did an internal exam and found out that I was plus two centimeters.  They informed me that my doctor was on her way, which made me very happy and relaxed because she knew what type of birth I wanted.
At 6:00 I had the urge to push and they told me that I needed to wait until my doctor arrived.  I waited until 6:30 and then felt that I needed to start breathing down the baby.  They told me to do what I felt was necessary and the doctor would be there any minute, I had two more surges and Dr. Court came in.  I opened my eyes to see her and she said that I could start “pushing”.  I started breathing B down at 6:30 and at 7:15 we had a beautiful, healthy, and ALERT baby girl!! B laid on my chest, with the cord still attached for 35 minutes!  They waited until the cord stop pulsating before cutting and clamping as I had requested.  B was wide awake and alert seconds after her birth and started to nurse and latching on great!  I owe everything to HypnoBirthing.  I could not have done this without it and I firmly believe that B is the healthy, happy, beautiful, and alert baby that she is because of HypnoBirthing!!  THANK YOU HYPNOBIRTHING AND ALLISON!!
