About Birth Paths®
What is Guided Visualization / Hypnosis?
Guided visualization, or hypnosis, is simply a naturally induced state of relaxed concentration. It can be achieved through regulated breathing, or concentrating on an fixed object. This fixed concentration allows our body and mind to let go and enter into a state of rest, free from anxiety and fear. When we enter this state of rest, we allow our body to work naturally, unimpeded and we open our subconscious. Our subconscious is the part of our mind influences what we think, feel and act. When this becomes open, we can reframe our perceptions, anxieties and concerns surrounding any experience, thought or image that comes to mind.
In the Birth Paths course, we will be incorporating guided visualization/hypnosis in the form of relaxation and stress-reduction techniques. What you experience will be similar to daydreaming or the focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book, your favorite movie, or staring at a fire. In that state you are totally relaxed and completely in control. You choose to participate or not to participate in the environment around you. Common concerns about hypnosis are addressed as well.
When you go into your birth with a relaxed, comfortable state of mind, your body is able to work in the same manner. The goal is to prepare you to experience labor and birth feeling confident and fully prepared for embracing your birth design and accommodate for any changes that may arise. You will feel in-control, and aware within your own space. You will be able to be present. Your breathing techniques will come naturally to you as you navigate your labor and birth, and you will feeling confident asking questions and advocating for your birth when necessary.
